MT KENYA: Ruto, Gachagua Allies Fiercely Clash At Mathira Burial [VIDEO]
Members of Parliament associated with President William Ruto and those allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua battled during a burial in Mathira, Nyeri County, on Wednesday, prompting police intervention to calm tensions.
The violence began when the area MP, Eric Wamumbi, rose to address the mourners, accusing Gachagua of using and dumping the Mathira women’s chairlady, who was being laid to rest.
“We, as the people of Mathira, do not support Rigathi Gachagua in any way because he used and dumped this woman. That is the truth, and he should know that,” Wamumbi stated.
Soon after, the polarised crowd began shouting at the legislator, with others supporting him, causing him to conclude his address early.

Kirinyaga Senator James Murango, upset by the claims, rose from his seat and charged toward Wamumbi before being stopped by plainclothes police personnel.
Supporters of the Nyeri young legislator built a barrier between him and Murango, who was upset and began singing in the local tongue.
Mourners were surprised by the change of events and began shouting at the political sides, begging them to leave their political disagreements at the funeral.
Wamumbi stated that the former DP deployed goons and allied MPs, including Kirinyaga Senator and Women’s Representative Njeri Maina.
“This woman here was used by Gachagua and dumped, only for him to send goons and the two lawmakers Njeri and Murango to come and disrupt this event,” Wamumbi alleged.
“I will not accept to be intimidated, I cannot be intimidated.”

The Kirinyaga Senator jumped to their defense, claiming that the disagreements were influenced by the local MP.
“There should be no conflicts at burial services; all these problems have been brought about by Wamumbi, and you can see that is why he has been forced to sit down,” Murango insisted.
The cleric who presided over the burial had previously cautioned the two sides not to become involved in politics, only for them to ignore him and return to their everyday lives.
The events come less than a week after Gachagua’s event was stormed by rowdy goons during a Sunday church service at PCEA Mwiki in Nairobi.
