UDA Senator Blasts Media For Disrespecting Ruto In A Barrage Of Exposé
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot criticized Kenyan media on Tuesday, April 15, for their portrayal of the Kenya Kwanza government, notably President William Ruto.
The Senate Majority Leader criticized critical coverage of Ruto during his speech at the funeral of former Member of Parliament John Koech.
He referred to it as “ridicule” and a lack of respect for the presidency.
Cheruiyot claimed that the country has been on an upward track since Ruto assumed office and that the Head of State’s coverage was unnecessary.
“What we see happening in the newspapers, even me as someone who studied journalism, what I am reading in the media, it is not journalism anymore,” Cheruiyot stated.
“It is as if the rules have been suspended. I want to appeal to the country that there will be another president after William Ruto,” he added.

“The institution of the presidency is not about William Ruto alone. This is a seat that is sacred to the country. Let us have limits to what can be said about the one who is in that seat.”
The Senator’s remarks come as Ruto and his administration have been subjected to harsh press headlines and fact-checking on his words and pledges.
On Sunday, March 2, Ruto responded to the Standard newspaper’s ‘Cunning Ruto’ headline, which he found offensive.
During a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi, Ruto said that the headline was inspired by recent political developments.
He insisted that his opponents had tried to orchestrate his defeat, but he overcame the obstacles.

“If you read today’s newspaper (The Standard), the headline states that Ruto is very cunning,” Ruto stated.
“I want to tell them that I am not as cunning as they think. This is the grace of God that is leading me. We believe in God.”
Ruto and his new political partner, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, were also featured on the main page under the caustic headline “Fooling Kenyans.”
The ICT Ministry’s decision to terminate all advertising campaigns with the Gideon Moi-owned publication was attributed to the perceived push-pull between the government and the newspaper.
