DETAILS: Vietnam’s Prime Minister Meets CS Tuya In Hanoi For Bilateral Talks

On Wednesday, April 16, President William Ruto’s envoy met with a delegation from the Republic of Vietnam for bilateral talks.

This occurred at the fourth session of the Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 (P4G) meeting in Hanoi.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 16, Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya stated that she met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Min Chinh and discussed bilateral diplomatic ties.

According to Tuya, one of the main concerns discussed by the two sides is how the two countries might collaborate and combat transnational organized crime.

“We discussed several subjects of mutual interest to our two Republics, including the shared desire to deepen diplomatic relations following the recent signing of an MOU on Diplomatic and Political Consultations in February,” she said.

“We also discussed the need for concerted efforts to tackle the growing challenge of transnational organised crimes,” she added.

The CS has also stated that the two countries will strengthen their cooperation in other areas, such as defense, manufacturing, universal health coverage, affordable housing, and food security.

“Kenya is particularly keen to partner with Vietnam in Defence cooperation, manufacturing, universal health coverage, affordable housing, and food security, sectors that underpin the Asian country’s growing economy, which attained an impressive 7.09% growth last year,” she stated.

Furthermore, Vietnam expressed support for Kenya’s bid to host the Global Plastics Treaty Secretariat at UNEP in Nairobi.

In recent months, the Kenyan and Vietnamese governments have been in regular touch, particularly since the arrest of Margaret Nduta, a Kenyan lady arrested in Vietnam for drug trafficking.

Vietnamese authorities seized Nduta at the Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport after discovering drugs in her suitcase during an immigration check.

After being apprehended, Nduta was sentenced to death by a Vietnamese court that found her guilty of drug trafficking.

However, after the uproar, especially on social media, the government kick-started negotiations to halt her execution and bring her back home.

However, in a statement issued on Friday, March 21, the foreign principal secretary, Korir Sing’oei, revealed that a Kenya team deployed to Vietnam was able to secure access to Nduta and that she was in good condition.

The PS stated that diplomatic measures were still on to save Nduta from execution.
