‘Do Not Just Vote!’ – Babu Owino Encourages Gen Z, Millennials To Pursue Selective Seats
Babu Owino, MP for Embakasi East, has now stated that if Gen Z and Millennials want to transform the country, they must pursue elective seats in 2027.
According to Babu, voting alone is insufficient to improve the country.
He believed that once elected, some of these leaders would become dealers rather than leaders.
This is where things change, as some seek to destroy rather than alter the country.
“Everybody in this country, anybody who goes to cast a ballot, is a politician. That is a political process that they are engaging in, which means that they are all politicians,” Babu said.
“So the question is, after electing a politician, what do these politicians do? Some become dealers. Others become leaders. Some have a mission to destroy the nation.”
He added: “Some have a vision to transform lives. So that is the only difference that we have. Therefore, when we elect a leader, it is better for that leader to work.”

Babu went on to claim that Gen Z and millennials constitute the bulk of the country’s population.
He claimed that as a result, they have the potential to produce a president among themselves, which may also be applied to other elected offices.
The MP underlined that this is why some of them should stand for election in 2027.
“I want to encourage this generation, the Gen Zs and the millennials, to participate in the forthcoming elections in 2027 because they are the majority; they add up to 65 to 70% of the Kenyan population,” Babu stated.
“That means that they can produce a president among themselves; they can produce any governor to the MCA seat.”

He continued: “So do not just participate by voting, but also participate by going for these elective seats, and that is what we are going to encourage. And I always say that if you are not on the table, break that table.”
Babu has been vocal about the need for young leaders to step up and run for office in order to effect change in the country.

Despite being in his second term in the National Assembly, he is one of the country’s youngest legislators.
The Gen Z protests in June 2024 prompted President William Ruto to reject the Finance Bill 2024, even though it had been enacted by the National Assembly.
