Security Officers Pay Visit To Homa Bay DG After Assassination Claims

Senior police officers paid a visit to Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga’s home in Kabuor village, Kasipul constituency, on Monday after receiving allegations of a possible security threat.

The Deputy Governor stated that the event occurred at 10 p.m. on Sunday night when his family detected suspicious activity around the compound while he was abroad.

They instantly alerted him, leading him to change his trip path and vehicle for safety.

According to his security staff, two unidentified people were spotted hiding in surrounding bushes around 300 meters from the house.

When the Deputy Governor’s vehicle neared, the driver came to a halt, and a police officer emerged to question the guys.

The individuals reportedly fled towards a nearby river, forcing the officer to fire warning bullets into the air to discourage any further threats.

Police from the Oyugis and Rachuonyo South stations went to the area, however, no expended cartridges or tangible proof of an attack were found.

Investigators revealed that at the time of the incident, the Deputy Governor was not accompanied by his customary security team.

However, a personal driver did fire four shots from a legal pistol as part of the response.

Speaking to reporters at his home on Monday, Magwanga expressed alarm over the event, saying he has received threats in the past but never expected them to develop so swiftly.

The tragedy occurred just days after the burial of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, while it is unknown whether the two events are related.

Police have initiated an inquiry into the event to establish who was involved and what their objectives were.

As investigations continue, the Deputy Governor has requested for increased security not only for himself but also for other officials facing similar threats.
