Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has praised President William Ruto’s collaboration with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying it has begun to yield political and economic benefits.

On Wednesday, May 4, Nyong’o stated that the two leaders’ collaboration will be critical in reinforcing national unity and growth.

The governor emphasized that Ruto and Raila should continue to make joint trips across the country to help promote inclusivity.

“We wholeheartedly support the decision by President Ruto and Raila Odinga to work together in the interest of national unity and development,” the governor said.

He added, “As a county, we stand firmly behind the vision outlined in the recently signed MoU that underpins the broad-based government.

“We celebrate the peace, unity, and renewed sense of hope that this partnership has inspired across the country.”

The county head has also thanked the president for beginning critical initiatives in the county.

Among these are the affordable housing projects, as well as large road and air transport projects, which he claims will play a critical role in boosting his country’s economic and social well-being.

“Our appreciation extends further to President Ruto for the broad portfolio of development projects his administration has initiated in Kisumu County, many of which are progressing steadily toward completion,” he said.

Nyong’o was among the politicians who expressed reservations after Raila and Ruto, longtime political enemies, joined forces.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 22, the governor accused the national government of undermining and disregarding county-level governance.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERA) need not exist if the national government is prepared to fully implement devolution,” Nyong’o said.

On Friday, March 7, President Ruto and Raila signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would allow the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to work together.
