Gov’t Goes After EX-PS Over Ksh 200 Million Grabbed Land
A former Principal Secretary could face legal action over a Ksh200 million plot of prime land allegedly taken from the government.
Anti-corruption investigators have launched an aggressive recovery campaign for the high-value property in Eldoret City.
On Thursday, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that legal processes have been launched to seize the parcel.
The land, located in Eldoret’s Central Business District (CBD), was reportedly obtained through fraudulent ways.
According to the EACC, the 3.44-acre area was initially designated for government housing.

However, it was illegally assigned for the personal benefit of the former Principal Secretary for Provincial Administration and National Security, as well as a corporation associated with a former Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner.
The action also names a previous Commissioner of Lands, which complicates the situation.
This man is charged with allegedly violating statutory and fiduciary duties, implying a larger plot involving high-ranking authorities in the illegal transfer of land.
According to EACC investigations, the site in question still houses two government residences, which are managed by the State Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“EACC contends that the land where two government houses still stand was not available for allocation as the same had been reserved and in use for public purposes.”
Because the dwellings are still under State control, EACC claims in the lawsuit that the prime piece of land is still government property.
In the action, the EACC seeks to declare the leases and subsequent transfers null and void.
The commission also wants the annulment of the land title, a permanent injunction to prevent further dealings, and the return of the land to the government.

The Environment and Land Court has certified the application as urgent, and the hearing date is set for June 23, 2025.
This is the EACC’s latest crackdown on supposedly state-owned property, coming only weeks after the recovery of 12 parcels of confiscated public land valued at Ksh320 million.
On June 20, the EACC confirmed an aggressive pursuit of 56 more illegally obtained parcels of land belonging to various entities.
Which include the State Department for Housing, the Judiciary, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Kenya Railways, and the National Treasury in the Western Kenya region.
