Kenyan Family In US Clings To Hope After Grandfather Vanishes
What was supposed to be a happy family reunion for a Kenyan family in the United States turned tragic after their beloved patriarch unexpectedly disappeared just hours after arriving.
Reuben Waithaka, 72, had traveled nearly 13,000 km from Kenya to Alabama, brimming with joy and pride at seeing his grandson graduate from high school – a moment he did not want to miss.
According to CNN, he was carrying personal gifts, including old, treasured images of his son as a small boy and matching African print shirts for himself, his son, and his grandson.
This symbolic gesture was intended to bring three generations together in one beautiful, memorable moment.

The reunion had been planned for some months. Waithaka arrived early, ready to enjoy family time and make new memories.
However, barely one day after landing, the dream transformed into a nightmare. On a calm morning in Calera, Alabama, he stepped outside his son’s house and never returned.
The final sighting of him is a doorbell camera video of him dressed smartly in khaki trousers, a blue-and-white plaid shirt, and black shoes.
He walked out at 11:08 a.m., and no one has seen him since. His disappearance has left the family devastated and in bewilderment.
What was supposed to be a celebration of legacy, love, and pride has turned into a desperate search fraught with grief and unresolved questions.
As police and volunteers continue their search, the family hopes and prays that the guy who traveled halfway around the world to be with his family will be discovered safe.

Reuben Waithaka has yet to be found seven weeks after he went missing.
Authorities in Calera, Alabama, searched the surrounding forested regions with helicopters, drones, off-road vehicles, tracking dogs, and thermal imaging cameras, but have found no clues.
The mystery has gripped the city, which has around 19,000 residents and is located about 48 miles south of Birmingham.
Waithaka’s family remains heartbroken, clinging to hope even as the stillness deepens.
The family has retraced Waithaka’s steps and repeatedly watched security footage in search of clues, but has had no success.
