At least four students are believed to have died after a pit latrine collapsed at Queen of Angels Primary School in Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.

While confirming the event, Turbo Sub-County Police Commander Peter Wekesa stated that a rescue squad has already been dispatched to recover the students.

During the rescue operation, three kids were successfully extracted from the collapsed latrine, while others have yet to be located, with sources indicating that the four remaining pupils may have died.

“We are at the scene digging up the area to find out if there are children underground,” Wekesa stated, adding that a detailed report would be issued soon.

According to preliminary accounts, the event occurred this morning while the students were going to use the restroom before beginning their usual academic activities.

Meanwhile, those rescued were transported to the nearest hospital for treatment, and investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the latrine’s collapse.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in a Kenyan school.
