INHUMANE! Family Of The Dead Protester Filmed Being Dragged By Police Speaks

The relatives of a man whose body was seen on film being dragged by police officers have described his last moments before he was slain during the Saba Saba riots.

Harrison Wachira died after being shot on Monday, July 7, and his immediate family is calling for justice.

Wachira represents just another example of police officers using excessive and fatal force.

Wachira’s partner claims she received a phone call from him immediately as the Saba Saba protests became violent in Juja.

She described how the deceased had traveled to Juja for work and called to let her know that he was stranded due to ongoing clashes between demonstrators and anti-riot police.

“He called and told me that there were skirmishes in Juja,” she revealed. “I advised him against opening shop and told him to just go home and I’d find a way to him since it was not too volatile on my side.”

The family learned of their kin’s death hours after the phone call, when a video of police officers dragging his body went viral.

One of Wachira’s uncles provided additional information on how the deceased reportedly died, blaming the gunfire on an officer believed to be aboard an unmarked Subaru.

The family also confirmed the viral video’s veracity, stating that Wachira’s bones were soiled with mud after being dragged by police personnel.

“Wachira was shot by someone in a Subaru, those Subarus which are usually unmarked,” one of Wachira’s relatives revealed.

“He has a gunshot wound on his neck, and it was clear he was dragged since his body is still mud-stained.”

The Saba Saba Day protests turned violent in numerous locations across the country, including Juja.

Despite anti-riot police efforts to limit access to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), protests spread into residential areas.

There were numerous reports of gunshots and running battles in Kitengela, Ngong, Kiserian, and Kangemi, among other parts of the country.

In the wake of the Saba Saba protests, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) revealed on Wednesday that the death toll from the demonstrations had risen to 31.

This included the passing of a 12-year-old girl in Kiambu, who was allegedly struck by a stray bullet while in her parents’ compound.
