Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is confident that he would defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, regardless of whether former Prime Minister Raila Odinga enters the race or supports him.

Gachagua stated on Friday during a meeting with Kenyans in the United States that their political movement is powerful enough to defeat any coalition established by Ruto and Raila.

In a statement, Gachagua expressed confidence that if Raila ran in the election, President Ruto would come fourth.

He argued that even if Raila opted to support Ruto rather than run for office, the outcome would remain the same.

“Even if they are together, we will beat them 70 plus 1. If Raila decides to run, Ruto will be number four in the elections. Either way, we are okay. He is one-term,” he added, referring to President Ruto’s chances of re-election.

The former DP also questioned the value Raila provides to any partnership, dismissing the idea that Raila’s support may boost Ruto’s standing.

According to Gachagua, Raila no longer has the same political power he once did, even in his traditional strongholds.

He asserted that numerous villages that formerly supported Raila have switched and now support his campaign.

“The Kamba nation, the Kisiis, the Luhyas, and even the Maasai have left him,” Gachagua said.

He went on to assert that even Raila’s own land, the Luo nation, is now divided, implying that the ODM leader’s power is waning.

Following his disagreement with the UDA leadership, Gachagua’s comments indicate that he continues to have political differences with President Ruto.

His words appear to be intended to garner support for a coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.

He has since described his interactions with the Kenyan diaspora as both fascinating and rewarding.

He complimented the Kenyan diaspora as frank, hardworking, and truthful people, stressing their willingness to share their perspectives on the country’s current situation.

“I had an engaging and fruitful deliberation with Kenyans in Seattle, Washington State,” Gachagua said.
