NTSA Issues Fresh Notice To All Vehicle Owners
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has advised all car and motorbike owners to update their vehicle records and tax status with the agency.
On Tuesday, July 29, NTSA Director General George Njao revealed that the authority had already made the vehicle update tool and module available through its portal.
The module will show car owners how to update their vehicle records.
To update, the NTSA requires that a duty record update request letter be submitted to the nearest NTSA office, encapsulating the motor vehicle owner’s contact information.
Once submitted, the authority will stamp a copy of the letter as verification that the documents were received.
In addition, the car owner must give a copy of their IDs, the vehicle’s original logbook, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) entrance document, and a duty payment receipt.

“In its undertaking mandate, the authority has operationalised the duty update module/vehicle records update tool to provide necessary support for all motor vehicle/motorcycle owners, including financial institutions, Government agencies, Insurance companies, dealers, and companies, among others,” the notice read.
According to the NTSA, once the updating process is completed, within seven working days, it will notify the vehicle’s owner to collect the updated documentation.
The record update is free of charge, according to NTSA, and the vehicle owner must pick up the documentation between Monday and Friday during working hours.
Individuals must produce the stamped request letter as well as the car owner’s original ID for collection, while entities must submit an authorization letter from the organization.
“The Authority aims to undertake the verification process and update the duty/records update in the service portal within 7working days,” the authority stated.
“The application processing time starts when the requisite documentation is verified and received at the NTSA offices.”

After receiving the revised records, the vehicle owner must apply for a duplicate logbook using the NTSA Service portal, known as eCitizen.
The vehicle owner will have to provide a duty-free logbook and pay a cost of KSh2,550.
According to the NTSA, generating the logbook will take three working days.
“If contacted by an unauthorised person(s) or through an unofficial channel advising that any NTSA service application can be fast-tracked or influenced in any way, please report the matter to the nearest NTSA office or the EACC for further action,” NTSA stated.
