Kenya Lands Another Continental Tourney Host Rights
Kenya will host another regional event just days after the African Nations Championships (CHAN), having won the bid to host the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifications.
The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) announced on Wednesday that Kenya will host the tournament, succeeding Tanzania.
The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, but will now take place in Nairobi from September 4 to September 16.
Tanzania, meanwhile, will concentrate only on hosting the CECAFA Club Championship, which is also slated for September.
CECAFA also revealed that Kenya had made a bid to host the competition, which will include eight teams.
“We are happy that the tournament will be returning to Kenya after the inaugural one was hosted there in 2021,” the CECAFA Competitions Director, Yusuf Mossi, said.

The last time Kenya hosted the competition, Vihiga Queens emerged victorious.
The team then represented the area in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Kenya Police Bullets FC will represent Kenya in the 2025 edition, having successfully defended their league title.
Notably, the squad will have the opportunity to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League for the second year in a row, having lost the final last year to Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC.

CECAFA announced an alteration to the event calendar to ensure qualifying are completed by Thursday, September 18.
This will allow qualifying players to compete in the preliminary round of the FIFA U20 women’s World Cup qualifiers, which will also be held in September.
Aside from Kenya Police Bullets, other teams in the eight-nation tournament are Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC, Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), JKT Queens (Tanzania), Kampala Queens (Uganda), Rayon Sports Women FC (Rwanda), JKU Princesses (Zanzibar), and Top Girls Academy (Burundi).
Notably, four member countries, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti, will not compete in this year’s qualifiers.
