HAITI: Gangs Attack MSS, Haitian Police Injure THREE Personnel
Three officers from the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) were injured during an early morning attack by Haitian gangs, according to reports.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, MSSM stated that the attack occurred in Kenscoff around 2 a.m., after the troops, mostly made up of Kenyan police officers, reacted to distress calls from local residents.
The Mission stated that the attack was conducted to disrupt a planned Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) transition scheduled for today.
“In anticipation of today’s scheduled CPT transition, armed gangs had plotted to disrupt national stability and render the country ungovernable,” the MSSM stated.

“However, these efforts were decisively thwarted through coordinated, around-the-clock patrols and a strong security presence.”
After responding to a distress call, armoured vehicles carrying MSS forces became stranded in trenches built by gangs, resulting in the attack.
According to MSSM spokesperson Jackson Ombaka, the gangs assaulted the officers with Molotov cocktails, which are homemade incendiary weapons constructed by connecting burning material to liquor bottles and throwing them to start fires and cause damage.
Despite their injuries, the officers were treated at the Aspen Level 2 Hospital and then released.
However, Ombaka stated that the officers were unable to retrieve the vehicles, which had been torched and damaged beyond repair.
Ombaka acknowledged the police’s bravery, revealing that the attackers incurred serious injuries despite fleeing.

Ombaka stated that the forces will continue targeted operations until all gang leaders are caught or willingly surrender to face punishment.
He also conveyed the Mission’s appreciation to the Haitian people and the Haitian National Police (PNH) for their ongoing support and collaboration.
The incident occurred just two days after heavy shooting was reported near the US embassy, amid growing gun violence.
On Monday evening, August 5, the United States issued a security notice advising its people to avoid Port-au-Prince, Tabarre, and the region surrounding the embassy.
