Police Officer Killed While Manning KCSE Exam, Widow Calls For Gov’t Help

The family of the police officer who was killed and his gun stolen while protecting a KCSE examinations container in Turkana has broken their silence, requesting government assistance.

Speaking on Tuesday, the family, led by his wife, lamented that the fallen officer was the family’s breadwinner, and his death had dealt a devastating blow to the entire extended family.

The widow, who had a kid with the deceased, stated that there were plans to create a firm in 2026, and that she may therefore benefit from government assistance or a job.

“The deceased is my husband, and he was very young. We have a little baby, so I am asking that the government help me because the last time he came home in August, he promised many things, including setting up a business for me next year,” the widow relayed.

“Now that he is dead, that idea of a business is also gone. I am just praying that the government help me in any form, whether by giving me a job or even starting up any business for me that will sustain me, because he was the breadwinner of the family.”

In addition to their young child, the widow disclosed that she was left to care for the officer’s elderly mother.

The deceased’s sister-in-law also sought financial assistance for her children, claiming that the slain officer had taken them in as his own and was paying for all of their bills.

The family is also calling for prompt investigations to bring those responsible for his killing to justice.

On Monday, November 4, the victim was guarding a KCSE examination container at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office when he and a coworker were ambushed by suspected bandits.

He was shot immediately, and they took his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammo.

Police officials were promptly called to the site, but he was pronounced dead on the spot, and his body was transferred to a local mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

According to preliminary accounts, the attackers wanted the officer’s gun, even as the region continues to experience an increase in insecurity, which is frequently perpetrated by bandits.
