Court Orders Arrest of Kisumu City Manager Over Forged Documents, Embezzlement

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court has issued an arrest warrant for Kisumu County City Manager Michael Abala Wanga, who did not appear in court to face allegations of forgery, uttering false papers, and fraudulent acquisition of public monies.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Wanga is suspected of falsifying a letter in order to attend the CLEAN Air Forum in Lagos, Nigeria, which took place from July 8 to 12, 2024.

The court heard that Wanga received a total of Ksh283,402 in excess facilitation payments from the Kisumu County Government after allegedly presenting the bogus letter as legitimate and stating that it was issued by the University of Lagos.

Prosecutors informed the court that the altered documents were used to legitimize the excessive payments.

“Today, we secured arrest warrants for Kisumu County official Michael Wanga over forged documents used to fraudulently acquire public funds,” the ODPP confirmed.
