“Ignore Those Misleading Rumours!” – ODM Fries Out Kasmuel Over Youth Leadership
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has responded to the growing discussion about the role of the President of the Youth League inside the party.
This comes after a pamphlet circulated yesterday at an ODM gathering in Mombasa claiming that political activist Kasmuel McOure was the party’s Youth League president.
In a statement issued Saturday morning, the party explained that the proclamations were fraudulent and deceptive, stating that Johnmark Ketorah was the genuine Youth League President.
“The President of the ODM Youth League is Honourable Johnmark Ketorah. Ignore any publication circulating containing misleading information on the same,” read ODM’s statement.

The clarification occurred after a publication sent to select ODM party members at the party’s 20th anniversary ceremony in Mombasa County on Friday, November 14, named McOure, among others, as a party leader in various roles.
McOure was identified as the party’s Youth League President, raising concerns about the newsletter’s legitimacy and the party’s formal organisational structure.
While Kasmuel is widely recognized to be an enthusiastic member and supporter of the party, the political activist has failed to secure a significant position inside ODM.
In 2024, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga elevated him to the party’s youth and student league. At ODM, he is in charge of mobilising young people to shape the party’s future.

On the other hand, the current Youth League President, Johnmark, was legally appointed by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) in 2016.
He was appointed to the role after being recommended by other youth league members, and he has since helped to reshape the party’s future by mobilising young people to support it.
Meanwhile, ODM’s clarification comes just two days after the party announced leadership changes, with Siaya Senator Oburu Onginga appointed as the party leader.
The council also approved Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osoti as deputy party leaders.
