TRANS-NZOIA: Nakhumicha, Wamalwa Step Up To Unseat Natembeya In 2027
Former Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa and former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha have begun campaigns to unseat Trans-Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya.
Chris Wamalwa spoke on Saturday, November 22nd, quoting popular Swahili proverbs and the Bible before announcing that his campaign for Governor of Trans-Nzoia County had underway.
“Siku ya leo ilikua kusemezana,” loosely translated to (“Today was a day of having conversations”), “and my journey to become the Governor of Trans-Nzoia County has begun today,” Wamalwa declared.
During the press conference, the gubernatorial candidate discussed his perspective of Trans-Nzoia as cosmopolitan, requiring inclusivity. He announced his goal to interact with all county inhabitants.
“We know Trans-Nzoia is a cosmopolitan and we are going to be all inclusive,” the former MP said.
While thanking the Luhya elders for their guidance and blessings, Chris Wamalwa underlined the significance of involving the Luhya community.
This is owing to their native standing in the region, prior to seeking an audience with the county’s other ethnic groupings.

In a similar vein, former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha discussed a command from the family that required her to represent the entire county, rather than particular wards, as Governor of Trans-Nzoia County, rather than as a female representative.
In her remarks, Nakhumicha cited the Kenyan Constitution’s guarantee of democratic freedom, which allows any Kenyan, regardless of gender, to compete for and hold any position of leadership.

This loosely translates to (“the Kenyan constitution allows any Kenyan, regardless of their gender, to hold a leadership position”).
Regardless of the political developments in his county, Governor Natembeya has yet to respond to the self-proclaimed 2027 gubernatorial candidates.
Earlier on, Natembeya vowed that no amount of intimidation would succeed in dismantling his efforts to unite the Western region under a new leadership banner.
