BY-ELECTIONS: Floods Submerge 8 Polling Stations in Baringo

Floods have submerged eight polling stations in Baringo South, and the IEBC says it will have to set up alternate polling stations in the Ilchamus and Mukutani wards to allow voting to take place on Thursday.

The affected areas include schools that the IEBC has always used in past general elections.

Waters from Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo surged over to the mainland, burying schools, residences, and hotels at one voting station.

“A total of eight polling stations have been submerged,” said IEBC Commissioner Anne Nderitu.

The situation is grave, with crocodiles and hippos ruling the fields that once held voter lines.

Ngambo Primary School and Lake Bogoria Secondary School are among the affected voting sites in Baringo South’s Mukutani and Ilchamus wards.

Furthermore, Lake Baringo Secondary School, Salabani Primary School, Sintaan Primary School, Oldepe Osinya Primary School, Nosukuro Primary School, and Lesun Primary School have all been affected.

“We will now have to gazette alternative polling stations so that these voters are not affected,” said Ms. Nderitu.

Despite the hurdles, the IEBC said plans are in place to ensure a free, fair, and transparent Senate by-election in Baringo, which will feature six candidates.
