“I Will Stop You In 2027!” – Atwoli Warns Malala, Gachagua
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli denied that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was politically embarrassed in the recent Kisa East Ward by-election in Khwisero, Kakamega County, as claimed by Cleophas Malala and his friends.
Atwoli denied reports that he was defeated on his own turf, calling the narrative a deliberate ploy to diminish his authority in Kakamega politics.
He stated that Khwisero is a constituency with numerous wards, and that he is from Khwisero Central, which is represented by a KANU MCA rather than a DCP MCA, as Malala claims.
“For somebody to allege that he won in Khwisero, where Atwoli comes from and in my own ward is the stupidity of any given moment I’ve ever seen,” Atwoli stated.

Malala previously stated that Kisa East, where the DCP won the County Assembly seat, is Atwoli’s home turf.
He said that the COTU boss is from the same Ward and will thus be represented by newly-elected DCP MCA Aduda Okwiri.
“Kisa East is in Khwisero Constituency in Kakamega County, where Mr. Francis Atwoli comes from,” Malala declared at a function on Sunday, November 30.

“In fact, Atwoli’s village home is in Kisa East, and that is where he will now be ruled by a DCP Party MCA.”
In response, Atwoli stated that he had not participated in any MCA campaigns, claiming that such contests are the duty of the area MP, not national-level leaders such as himself.
Atwoli claimed that tying him to the loss was both misleading and politically motivated.
“I only appeared in Malava constituency and then flew to Europe. I can campaign for anyone but not an MCA. I cannot reduce myself to that even if the position was vacant,” Atwoli asserted.
Atwoli went on to accuse Malala of manipulating the by-elections to give the impression that his power in the Western region had eroded.
He warned that the charges were baseless and promised to take an active role in the 2027 general election to combat what he called political provocation.
The veteran unionist claimed that he possesses both the capacity and the networks to prevent his opponents from acquiring influence in Kakamega and on a national scale.

“I have the capacity to stop Malala from becoming anything in Kakamega. I have the capacity to stop Gachagua from becoming anything in Kenya. Wait for 2027, I will stop them,” he stated
Atwoli claimed that attempts to portray him as losing influence in the western region were premature and that the true test would be the 2027 General Election.
He foreshadowed a heated clash, warning individuals who dragged his name into the by-election narrative would be dealt with decisively in future contests.
Atwoli spoke for the first time after the heavily disputed Kisa East MCA seat, which Gachagua’s DCP candidate won.
