IEBC Chair Highlights BIG Achievements Since Taking Office
Erastus Ethokon, Chairperson of the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has underlined operational achievements made during the last election exercise.
Ethekon stated that the Commission’s emphasis on efficiency, transparency, and integrity paid off throughout the country.
On Monday, December 8, Ethokon lauded the Commission’s personnel, field officers, and partner agencies during a by-election assessment from November 27.
This comes after he claims they conducted one of the most smoothly managed operations in recent years, notwithstanding the violent episodes seen during the mini polls.
Political parties, observers, security services, civil society organizations, and media representatives attended the session. In his speech, Ethokon described the electoral process.

He described the Commission’s preparedness efforts, which included hiring and training officials, deploying KIEMS kits, enforcing the Electoral Code of Conduct, and managing diverse security settings spanning 22 by-elections.
Ethokon also noted other areas where the IEBC achieved noteworthy achievement, such as early polling station opening, KIEMS kits with over 99 percent functionality, transparent counting, and rapid results transmission, among others.
Obstacles in November By-Elections
During the by-election, the Chairperson acknowledged the challenges the Commission faced.
Voter indifference in several locations influenced turnout, as did attempts to influence or pressure election officials, which the Commission strongly opposed.
Logistical constraints are especially prevalent in remote areas with difficult terrain.
Misinformation circulating online required rapid clarification and public communication.
