“Parents Are Irresponsible In Nurturing Children!” – CS Murkomen Says

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has cautioned that the country’s developing social ills are inextricably related to a growing trend in which parents abandon their obligation to raise and guide their children.

Murkomen stated that many families have increasingly outsourced parenting to teachers, clergy, nannies, and digital platforms, leaving children without the moral foundation required to navigate modern society.

The CS spoke at the Reformed Church of East Africa (RCEA) Women League Annual Convention’s closing ceremony in Kitengela.

Murkomen urged parents to retake their major position in character development, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a prayer culture, family values, and continuous direction at home.

He contended that solid family traditions and beliefs give children the framework to live with honesty, discipline, and effort.

“We are losing the current generation because of absence of family mentorship,” he said.

“Don’t just take the word of God for yourself, the most important thing as mothers, borrow from those of the previous generations, we are here because the way our parents brought us with love and values.”

The CS stated that the shift in behavior among young people has contributed to ethical deterioration, misbehavior, and crime.

“As mothers, you must build your family traditions, ways and faith. When the children grow up, they should know of the boundaries they cannot do and what they are supposed to do,” Murkomen said.

He went on to say that establishing a prayer culture and instilling social mores in families gives children the foundation they need to live lives of honesty, discipline, and diligence.

“The role of parenting is increasingly being left to teachers, pastors, nannies and the internet,” he said.

“Some of the prevailing social ills and crimes in our society today are attributable to a lack of parental attention and guidance during childhood.”

Adding, “Family faith and tradition act as the moral compass and anchor as one navigates life’s challenges and demands.”

The CS urged churches, community leaders, and families to collaborate to develop society’s moral fabric, emphasizing that no institution can substitute an active and responsible parent.

He congratulated the RCEA Women League for its work in fostering families and moral values.

He also stated that the church remained an important partner in rebuilding community ethics and empowering households across the country.
