Winnie Odinga Speaks On Rift With Oburu Oginga In ODM
Winnie Odinga, an East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament, has reaffirmed her unflinching support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership under Oburu Oginga, dismissing reports that the party is divided within.
Speaking on Saturday, December 13, in Gatanga, Murang’a County, Odinga emphasized her personal and political devotion to the party leadership, stating unequivocally that she supports her uncle Oburu Odinga.
“The party leader is my uncle. There is no day I will be in a faction he is not in. He is the head of my family, and I am always with him,” Odinga stated.

She emphasized that internal rivalry is an expected part of democratic politics and should not be mistaken for friction.
While conceding that disagreements are unavoidable in any political movement, Winnie argued that these differences did not herald the end of ODM.
The EALA MP also stated that ODM remained unified and deeply rooted in the values established by its founder, the late Raila Odinga, denying reports of internal party divisions.
She stated that ODM remained to be guided by collaborative leadership.

“The party will always have disagreements, but that doesn’t mean that ODM is falling apart,” she added.
“Not everybody will think the same, and people are going to compete. Raila taught us what to do.”
She also insisted that the ODM party stay strong and that it will run candidates for all political offices in 2027.
She emphasized the importance of a strong party being competitive and fielding candidates around the country in order to gain power.
“The purpose of a political party is to capture power. All power. ODM must be competitive and fill candidates everywhere. But that does not mean the party is divided,” she said.
Winnie also chastised individuals seeking to leave ODM due to differences, alleging that they disagreed with what the party’s leader and founder, Raila Odinga, had taught them.
Her remarks come amid growing speculation that Odinga and her uncle, Oburu Oginga, were taking divergent political positions, particularly after Winnie appeared to lean toward the anti–broad-based faction.
At the same time, Oburu was widely seen as aligning with ODM’s pro-broad-based camp.

Winnie had publicly questioned her uncle’s competence to lead the Orange party after Oburu was installed as the party leader following her father’s passing, suggesting the party should return to its members to decide leadership.
She called for a national delegates convention (NDC) to address the party’s direction.
These previous statements have led to public speculation about a war within the Odinga family or potential rivalry.
Oburu had indicated the desire to manage discussions internally, saying that she would sit down with Winnie as father and daughter to find a way forward.
