According to the investigators, despite being interviewed to aid the case, the driver, Tyrus Githinji Kamau, would be expected to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22, just three days before Christmas.
According to police, the motorist was released on cash bond and is charged with reckless driving in violation of the law.
“Tyrus is out on cash bail pending further investigations into the offence of causing death by dangerous driving,” DCI said.
“He is required to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base on 22nd December 2025 for further police action.”
Detectives have also interviewed the petrol station’s night guard and fuel attendant, who have both supplied personal recollections of what happened on that fatal night.
CCTV & Forensic Investigations
Following the incident, the DCI sent a team of homicide investigators and forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory to the location to conduct preliminary investigations and secure critical exhibits.

We wish to clarify to the public that the registration number of the vehicle involved in the accident that claimed the life of Hon. Cyrus Jirongo is KCZ 350C, and not KCZ 305U as earlier communicated. We sincerely regret this typo and any inconvenience or confusion… https://t.co/m7fXNzBTPp
Detectives collected CCTV footage from the Eagol Petrol Station as part of the scene documentation, and it has already been reviewed and analyzed.
Jirongo drives into the petrol station from the Nairobi direction at 2:18:40am, but does not refuel.
At 2:19:10 a.m., he came to a halt at the station exit, then turned right to return to Nairobi. At 2:19:25am, a PSV bus collided with his vehicle, as seen on CCTV.
The collision included Jirongo’s vehicle, registration number KCZ 350C, and a public service vehicle bus, registration number KCU 576A, operated by Climax Company Ltd.
The collision occurred at about 2:19am and resulted in a head-on impact that pushed Jirongo’s vehicle approximately 25 metres from the point of impact, while the bus came to a stop about 50 metres away.

Detectives are also examining Jirongo’s movements before the crash, including recording statements from individuals he interacted with earlier that night.
Notably, those present at a meeting at Karen Oasis Bar and Restaurant in Nairobi.
The detectives added that further analysis of the CCTV footage is underway, and additional statements are expected from passengers aboard the Climax Company Ltd bus and other witnesses.
Meanwhile, DCI noted that once investigations are complete, a comprehensive file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and advice.
