TWO People Killed At Governor’s Home Over Christmas Gifts

Two people were killed in a stampede at Busia Governor Paul Otuoma’s home during a Christmas gifting function on December 23.

The mourning families of the two are now demanding thorough inquiries into their loved ones’ deaths, since they had hoped for Christmas gifts.

An 81-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man with impairments died in the incident, while several others were injured.

The gathering reportedly turned rowdy when neighbors began competing for the food, resulting in a rush.

Rispa Anyango, the daughter of the 81-year-old widow who died in the stampede, describes her mother’s tragic death.

“She fell, and people stepped on her chest; when we finally rescued her from the stampede, she was not breathing,” the daughter revealed.

Afrikanus Wanyama, the brother of the 67-year-old who also died at the governor’s mansion, claims that people shoved his brother during the rush.

“My brother was in his wheelchair; when things escalated, people pushed him down,” Wanyama revealed.

The 81-year-old’s family claims that attempts were made to covertly take the deceased family member’s body to a local funeral home, but they refused, insisting that police be engaged.

The 67-year-old’s family reportedly denied a similar action, instead agreeing to remove the late brother’s body from the Governor’s mansion until police came.

The bodies of the victims of the stampede are currently at the Busia County Teaching and Referral Hospital funeral home, as those who sustained injuries receive treatment at the hospital.

Members of the Busia County Executive visited the injured victims of the stampede at the hospital on December 23.

The families are now calling upon the government to intervene and help them as they grieve on Christmas.
