Gov’t To Compensate Siaya Man Whose Dog Was Killed By a Python
Charles Osore, 52, is scheduled to collect government compensation after killing a python that attacked and killed his dog in Luoka village, Ugunja Sub-county.
The event, which received national attention after being broadcast on Citizen TV, prompted a visit from a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) team led by Grace Kariuki, Senior Warden for Kisumu and Siaya Counties.
Speaking to Charles Osore’s residence, Kariuki commended him for collaborating with authorities despite losing his dog.
He added that they came to assist him and start the compensation process.

“We’ve come here with my team, because the man was attacked by a python, one of the wildlife species, and that is why we saw it better to come here to support him,” Kariuki stated.
KWS officers reassured locals that the government will tackle the situation and underlined the need to report wildlife sightings promptly.
“Because of that, we have come here to support you and give you the compensation from the government,” the warden assured him.
The team also promised to hold awareness programs in the area to teach residents how to respond to wildlife encounters.
Mzee Osore praised the government for listening to the community’s concerns, while urging Kenya Wildlife Service officers to act quickly and efficiently whenever instances of human-wildlife conflict are received.
