Fresh fissures have appeared within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with internal difficulties prompting the Kenyatta family to rehash charges of clandestine conspiracies involving the disputed 2022 General Election and the party’s future governance.

The consequence has put ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna under heavy scrutiny after he openly claimed that there were plans to sell or pass over the party to President William Ruto’s supporters.

These allegations have disturbed party stalwarts and sparked long-running succession disputes.

ODM hardliners, including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, have accused Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of secretly conspiring with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

They allege that the action is part of a larger plan to destabilize the party following the death of its longstanding leader, Raila Odinga.

Sifuna spoke at a heated funeral service in Murang’a County on Saturday, January 3, focusing on the 2022 campaign.

The Senator accused senior party officials of profiting from Uhuru Kenyatta’s support while leaving ODM vulnerable on the ground during the election.

“You Junet, when did Uhuru’s money start becoming bad? When you were eating the same, you did not even bring a penny to the party,” Sifuna said.

“You ate it alone. We are waiting for a report on what happened in 2022. You ate the money and left the likes of Wamunyoro to beat us 10 nil. If not for you, we would have been in government.”

Junet, in a strongly worded press release published later that evening, denied the claims and accused Sifuna of “moonlighting” for Uhuru Kenyatta within ODM, while demanding accountability for the failure to deploy and pay poll agents.

“The answer is simple, clear, and verifiable: Former President Uhuru Kenyatta released the funds meant for election agents to his blood brother, Muhoho Kenyatta,” Junet stated.

He added that Muhoho then appointed Patrick Mburu to oversee recruitment and payments.

Junet alleged that Mburu presented himself as an IT expert capable of preventing IEBC result manipulation and claimed that he remains close to Uhuru.

The lawmaker cited a recent trip to Nigeria with the former Head of State and Kalonzo Musyoka as evidence of his continued influence.

According to Junet, the agents’ operations were run from a highly restricted office in Westlands, an arrangement he said was so secretive that even Raila could not freely access it during the campaign.

“The fact is, once they took charge, they never procured any agents for Hon. Raila Odinga, not in Mt Kenya and not in Luo Nyanza. It was a long con game,” Junet said, insisting that these were facts and not speculations.

He further argued that his appointment as Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly after the election was proof that Raila trusted him and did not view him as a betrayer of the party or its presidential bid.
