“DAP-K Is Not For Sale!” – Eugene Wamalwa Tells Off Kenya Kwanza

Eugene Wamalwa, the head of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has categorically dismissed rumors of a secret agreement with the State House.

This comes as certain Western Kenya politicians put pressure on him to dissolve his party and support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

Wamalwa took to X on Sunday, January 4, 2025, to declare that his party is not for sale, despite continuous suspicions of secret negotiations with the government.

“DAP-K is not for sale and shall be the last Party standing even if all other parties are bought in Western Kenya and Kenya, and Eugene Wamalwa will be the last man standing even if all other Presidential candidates in Western Kenya and Kenya are bought,” he stated emphatically.

The controversy reached a climax at the burial of former Likuyani MP Enock Kibunguchy on Saturday, January 3.

The Ruto-aligned leaders openly accused Wamalwa of sabotaging regional unity while publicly asking for cooperation.

Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, who oversees cooperatives and MSMEs, directly criticized Wamalwa’s political stance.

“You come here to tell us to come together, and you have stuck to these parties of yours. If we don’t come together, there’s no place those parties will take you,” Oparanya said.

The CS questioned why Wamalwa clings to his party while calling for unity.

The increased pressure has been coupled with what DAP-K refers to as a disinformation campaign.

A fake letter appeared on social media stating Wamalwa had been ousted from his own party, with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya reportedly taking his place.

DAP-K quickly discarded the forged paper, confirming that no such National Executive Committee meeting had occurred and that the party’s leadership structure was intact.

Governor Natembeya accused pro-government UDA politicians of crafting the bogus letter to create confusion ahead of the Malava parliamentary by-election.

“This letter is being circulated by UDA members who already know we are on the verge of winning the Malava seat,” Natembeya claimed.

“It is a calculated attempt to create confusion and distract our people. Ignore it in its entirety.”

Despite the coordinated push from Western Kenya leaders to consolidate the region behind Ruto, Wamalwa has remained resolute in maintaining DAP-K’s independence.

He positioned himself as a fortress against what he characterizes as the wholesale purchase of political parties and leaders.
