Otiende Amollo Calls On Oburu To Bring Order In ODM Amidst Junet, Sifuna Scuffle
Members of Parliament from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have urged the party’s head, Oburu Oginga, to intervene in emerging disputes among elected leaders inside the party, citing detrimental divides.
Seven party legislators, led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo, stated that internal splits had begun to erupt following the death of party founder Raila Odinga and will seriously undermine the faction’s cohesiveness ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The leaders noted the continuing dispute between Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
The two have swapped accusations about how campaign funds were handled during Odinga’s failed 2022 presidential attempt.
“Given the positions of trust bestowed on them, we urge the party officials like Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, to desist from public verbal slurs and return to the table for internal discussions,” MP Omollo said.

He also referred to the reported attack on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino by Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who allegedly threatened to shoot him.
Owino alleged Alai accused him of coordinating social media attacks on his wife.
As a result, the party requested that Oburu convene party organs and assist in resolving ongoing issues in order to restore the party’s obviously deteriorating public faith.
“The current intolerance does not augur well for a revolutionary movement that Rt Hon Raila Odinga founded on the ideals of democracy, free speech and justice,” he said.
He further stated that the schisms are costing the party influence in some regions, since other political parties are taking positions previously held by ODM members.

The spat witnessed within the party has laid bare the extent of ODM’s internal disarray in the post-Raila era.
Once held together by the towering authority of its founder, the party is now grappling with leadership struggles and unresolved grievances from the 2022 election.
Additionally, there are also competing power centres that are increasingly comfortable fighting in the open.
