George Koimburi, a Juja Member of Parliament, has announced his departure from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Koimburi accused the party of corruption, intimidation, and favouring affluent newcomers over long-serving members.

Speaking with followers, Koimburi indicated that some people believed they could join the party without following proper procedures, stating the party had become a haven for persons with questionable behavior.

He claimed he had been treated unfairly despite his long-standing loyalty to the party and its leadership.

The MP said that contenders were forced to pay large sums of money, reportedly up to KSh5 million, in order to secure party support.

He said that long-serving members were being pushed aside in favor of new recruits with money, particularly in Kiambu County, where he accused the party of having criminal inclinations in its operations.

“The people coming after are offering Ksh 5M to the party and now they seem as if they have lived in the party,” he stated.

“We who have been there are pushed aside and so am appealing to my people to be cautious of these criminal parties because this DCP party, especially inside Kiambu county, has shown criminal tendencies and is collecting money from people’s pockets so that they can offer the people party tickets to vie.”

Koimburi also criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that his recent political moves have caused alarm.

He questioned the symbolism of politicians wearing bulletproof jackets, telling people not to follow leaders who appear to shield themselves while putting others in danger.

According to Koimburi, leadership should prioritize unity, peace, and bringing people together, especially in the Mt Kenya region.

He acknowledged that he was leaving the DCP, stating that he could not support a leader who was unwilling to incur the same risks as regular supporters.

He stated that true leadership meant standing with the people, even in difficult moments.

The Juja MP further claimed that party decisions had been made without consulting him, including meetings held in his constituency and the endorsement of another candidate to vie on a DCP ticket.

He claimed this happened despite his past support for party leadership, even during times when he faced arrest and prosecution.

Koimburi stated that development concerns in Juja also drove his decision to leave the party.

He noted that residents had suffered for years due to poor roads, lack of water and electricity, and said that following the DCP path appeared unlikely to resolve these issues.

He added he now wanted to work directly with the government to secure resources for development projects, including roads and affordable housing.
