Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s two-day security tour in Isiolo descended into chaos when local leaders battled in a dramatic encounter, leaving security personnel fighting to restore order.

The incident occurred on February 4, 2026, while Murkomen was in the region to launch a large-scale multi-agency operation aimed at combating banditry, livestock rustling, and the spread of illegal weaponry in the hazardous area.

What began as a planned launch of a multi-agency security operation swiftly deteriorated into a series of ugly confrontations that surprised both the public and security forces.

In a dramatic video, a woman wearing a black niqab and abaya was forcibly held down and led away by several males dressed in civilian clothes.

The woman appeared to resist the group as they dragged her through a garden-like setting, as a swarm of media cameras and anxious bystanders watched the high-stakes showdown closely.

Another scuffle broke out nearby, involving numerous guys who were observed pushing and shoving each other while shouting in Dholuo, causing complete disarray within the government compound.

Police officers and personnel clad in military camouflage battled to restore order as scuffles threatened to derail the Cabinet Secretary’s urgent visit. Following the incident, there were no reports of any injuries.

Murkomen’s visit aimed to launch security operations to disarm criminals, recover stolen livestock, and seize illegal firearms in Isiolo, Samburu, and Laikipia counties amid rising insecurity.

The CS also focused on targeting criminal networks, addressing not just active bandits but also their sponsors and those supplying ammunition to perpetuate violence in the region.

The government plans to reorganise security teams on the ground to improve response times and open new security roads to enhance access to volatile areas affected by banditry.

During his tour, Murkomen consulted with Isiolo MCAs, Governor Hassan Guyo, and security officials to address the governance and security crisis gripping the northern frontier counties.

The 2-day visit followed a surge in banditry attacks, including the recent killing of a 15-year-old boy, which prompted the government to take direct action to restore peace.
