The U.S Issues New Advisory To Travellers Over ‘Global Threats’
The US Department of State has expanded the Smart Traveller Enrolment Program (STEP) by adding a group enrollment option.
The tool enables families, organisations, schools, and travel coordinators to register multiple US individuals traveling abroad with a single submission.
“You asked for it, and now it’s here! Group enrolment is now available for the Smart Traveller Enrolment Program (STEP),” the agency stated.
“This should simplify the sign-up process for families, school groups, travel arrangers, and many others.”

The update comes as the US government continues to issue frequent security alerts in response to escalating global threats.
These include civil unrest, armed conflict, extreme weather occurrences, health emergencies, and infrastructure disruptions in many locations across the world.
STEP is a free service provided by the Bureau of Consular Affairs that allows US citizens and nationalities residing or traveling outside of the United States to receive real-time safety and security alerts from US embassies and consulates.
Enrollment also enables US diplomatic missions to contact registered travelers during situations such as evacuations, natural catastrophes, or unexpected border closures.
The new Group Enrolment option allows one organiser to enter travel information for numerous people at once, including destination countries, travel dates, and emergency contact information.

This is meant to make registration easier for group travel, such as study abroad programs, faith-based missions, corporate travel teams, sports delegations, and family vacations.
The expansion complements a larger redesign of the STEP platform, which was finished in late 2024 and shifted the system to a new technical infrastructure that integrates with Login.gov.
Login.gov is a secure, centralised sign-in platform operated by the U.S. General Services Administration that allows members of the public to access multiple federal government services using a single account.
The revamped platform allows users to manage multiple trips, subscribe to destination-specific alerts, and choose between short-term travel enrolment or long-term residence updates.
