Ruto’s FOUR CSs Make New Wave of State Appointments
With less than a year until the next general election, several Cabinet Secretaries have announced new government appointments and reappointments to major state agencies and bodies.
Treasury Secretary John Mbadi, his Energy counterpart Opiyo Wandayi, Education Secretary Julius Ogamba, Interior Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and other Cabinet members made the appointments, which span security, finance, education, energy, tourism, transportation, and culture.
In the security sector, Interior CS Murkomen named Ibrahim Mugetha Ndung’u to the Firearms and Licensing Board for a three-year term beginning February 6, 2026.
Murkomen also reappointed Yakub Rashid Abdullahi as the board’s non-executive chairperson for an additional three years.
At the Treasury, Mbadi reappointed Moess Mirr as chairperson and Rachel Putani Leyian as trustee of the Kenya National Entrepreneurs Savings Trust for another three-year term commencing February 10, 2026.
Mbadi also named Jennifer Cirindi Njiru as chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM), along with seven other members who would serve for three years.
In a separate notice, the Treasury CS appointed James Mwaniki Nthiga to the Board of the Local Authorities Provident (LAP) Fund for a three-year term beginning February 6, this year.
Furthermore, Tourism CS Rebecca Miano announced many appointments, including Wuapari Cicilia Saayioi and Tabitha Murigi to the Council of Kenya Utalii College.
She also appointed Anne Nyawira Ngugi to the Board of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute, both for three-year terms.
In the Energy sector, CS Wandayi appointed George Karanja as chairperson of the Council of the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas National Polytechnic, alongside five council members, all set to serve for three years.
Meanwhile, in the education sector, CS Ogamba named David Wamatsi Omusotsi as the non-executive chairperson of the National Biosafety Authority, appointing him to serve a three-year term.
Ogamba also appointed former minister and politician Professor Hellen Sambili as a member of the Commission for University Education (CUE) for a three-year term beginning February 6, 2026.

Additionally, the Education CS appointed Joyce Chepkirui Sigey to the Council of Kabarnet University College, while revoking the appointment of Millicent Too Chemutai.
Elsewhere, Sports CS Salim Mvurya appointed Kilifi-based politician and lawyer George Kithi as a board member of the Sports and Arts Fund Board.
His Gender counterpart, Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, appointed Charfano Guyo Mokku to the National Heroes Council, revoking the appointment of Gitu Kahengeri.
In the Transport docket, CS Davis Chirchir rounded off the appointments by naming Benson Mwaniki Njeru as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for a three-year term.
