Protests Disrupt Traffic Along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway
Traffic flow along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway came to a halt on Wednesday morning, February 11, due to demonstrations.
Demonstrations broke out in Magumu’s Soko Mjinga area, with residents blocking the major roadway with stones and logs.
Residents organized the protests to raise hospital expenses for a 19-year-old boy who was carried on his bed owing to leg difficulties.
Residents are seen standing along the road in videos, with some blocking the major path with stones and wood, generating even more uncertainty and turmoil.
Other vehicles, particularly Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), were observed attempting to bypass the residents by driving along the sides of the route.

By the time this post was published, no police officers had been in the area to calm the situation and restore normal traffic flow.
It is unknown what prompted the activists to confront some motorists and obstruct the route, despite the protest initially being peaceful.
The event occurred a day after similar protests were held in Nyeri county on Tuesday, February 10, blocking the key Nairobi-Nanyuki route following the inexplicable death of a child.

Photos and videos posted on X show the mob blocking both sides of the dual carriageway with bonfires and stones, rendering the road inaccessible for a period.
Police officers were later deployed to the scene to de-escalate the situation and lobbed teargas to disperse the crowd.
Reports indicate that the residents were marching with the body of a woman who was found dead in a pit latrine on Tuesday in her home in Giagatika.
The demonstrators demanded justice for the victim, pressing security agencies to act swiftly and uncover the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
