Ruto Appoints New Lands Commission Chairperson, SIX Members
President William Ruto has formally appointed Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy as the Chairperson of the National Land Commission (NLC) for a six-year term.
In a Special Gazette notice dated March 12, 2026, the Head of State noted that the appointment was made in accordance with Section 7 of the National Land Commission Act.
“I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy to be the Chairperson of the National Land Commission for a term of six years,” the notice stated.
In a separate notice published in the same special issue, Ruto also appointed six individuals to serve as members of the National Land Commission for a similar six-year term.
The members include Susan Khaemba Oyatsi, Daniel Murithi Muriungi, Kigen Vincent Cheruiyot, Julie Ouma Oseko, Mohamed Abdi Haji Mohamed and Mary Jiane Seneta.
NLC’s new leadership team is expected to play a critical role in overseeing land administration, resolving disputes, and ensuring transparency in land allocation across the country.
The latest announcement comes just hours after the National Assembly approved the appointment of Saggaf Alawy as the new Chairperson of the Commission alongside the six members.

The approval was confirmed during a special motion presented before the House on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, following a prior approval by a special committee.
President Ruto nominated the said individuals to the Commission on February 17, following a Court of Appeal ruling that directed their appointments.
The appointments come at a time when land governance remains one of the most sensitive and consequential issues in Kenya’s socio-economic and political landscape.
With the six-year tenure now formally gazetted, the new chairperson and commissioners are expected to assume office and steer the commission’s agenda in line with constitutional requirements.
