DCI Arrests Raphael Tuju Moments After Resurfacing From Hiding
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has reportedly been detained by police, moments after he resurfaced after going into hiding.
His arrest was confirmed by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru.
Njiru revealed that the former CS was bundled into a police car moments after holding a press conference to explain his whereabouts over the past 36 hours.
According to Njiru, Tuju was in a worrying state as far as his health was concerned.
Regardless, authorities reportedly insisted on taking him to the police station to record a statement.
Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also revealed Tuju’s arrest, as he criticised authorities for the manner in which they reportedly took away the former Jubilee Party Secretary General.
“Hours ago, police & DCI officers surrounded and barricaded Hon. Raphael Tuju’s home , refusing to let anyone leave until they had him,” Kalonzo said on social media.
He added, “I personally drove him to Karen Police Station to record a statement in good faith, in the spirit of due process.
“What followed was unacceptable. Hon. Tuju was carried away in a manner that no Kenyan, indeed no human being, should ever experience.”
By the afternoon of Monday, March 23, there was drama at the Karen Police Station as Tuju’s legal team raised alarm over the welfare of the former CS.
“They want to abduct him. Mark that vehicle. The manner in which they took him was unacceptable,” Ndegwa Njiru was heard saying while outside the Karen Police Station.
In videos shared on social media, Tuju is seen in a distressed state at the police station.
Doctors have since been deployed at the Karen Police Station to attend to the former CS, with authorities insisting he has to remain in police custody.
DCI Issues Statement on Tuju Saga
In the wake of his arrest, DCI boss Amin Mohamed has since held a press conference, explaining authorities’ part in the drama surrounding the embattled Tuju.
Amin , in his statement, faulted Tuju’s family over what he described as a deliberate attempt to stifle investigations by denying police access to the former CS’s Karen home.

More sensationally, the DCI boss further revealed that investigations established that Tuju, contrary to his account hours earlier, was in his home throughout the entire ordeal.
“Following the family’s initial denial of cooperation, the NPS escalated the matter with urgency,” Amin said.
“A combined operational team of uniformed officers was immediately deployed to secure the residence in a deployment which started late in the night.”
Before adding, “Crucially, the DCI conclusively found that Tuju was in his the presence of his home throughout the event. Even at the time when his phone was off, he was at his residence.”
The DCI further clarified that following investigations, Tuju, who is embroiled in a battle to rescue a multi-million Karen property, could face charges related to his alleged staged abduction.
