MP Dies While Receiving Treatment, Wetang’ula Announces

 Ol Kalou, Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, is dead.

National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed that the lawmaker died on Sunday, March 29, while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

At the time of publishing this story exact circumstances surrounding his death, including the specific illness he had been battling, have not yet been made public

Kiaraho has reportedly been unwell for some time and has been seeking treatment both locally and abroad.

 Wetang’ula confirmed that he has appointed Members to the Funeral Preparation Committee to collaborate with the family of the MP and start funeral arrangements.

 The team will be led by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku,  and assisted by Nyandarua MP Faith Gitau and seven other members.

On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Kiaraho,” Wetang’ula said.

While the late Olkalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho had been battling illness, several initiatives and donations were received on his behalf to support the constituency.

One such instance saw a representative receive 40 water tanks from the Kenya Wildlife Service to aid schools with water harvesting during the rainy season as recently as of March 25.

Kiaraho was first elected as Ol Kalou constituency MP in 2013 and successfully defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 General elections.

In the National Assembly, he has been a member of the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works & Housing, and the Procedure & House Rules Committee.

The MP’s last appearance in public was in November, when he was conducting an infrastructural inspection tour in his constituency.

Some notable controversies linked to the MP during his tenure include being questioned in connection with the alleged mismanagement of about KSh 120 million in NG-CDF funds between 2013 and 2018.

In 2020, the MP was also questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the alleged mismanagement of constituency development funds.

Kiaraho is the second Member of Parliament to die this year, following Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno.

Ng’eno was among six people killed in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
