Suspended FKF President Hits Back At Federation, Rejects Suspension
Hussein Mohamed has rejected his suspension by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), terming the move unjustified and maintaining that no funds were lost during the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Mohamed’s response comes a day after FKF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) announced his suspension over allegations of financial mismanagement.
The suspension involved the alleged misappropriation of Ksh42 million linked to CHAN preparations, with NEC also directing Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim and Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru to step aside.
In a statement on Saturday, April 25, Hussein dismissed the accusations, insisting that procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was handled within the regulations of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
"FKF did not transfer or pay any money to any insurance company for CHAN2024 and I want to challenge anyone with evidence to present it forward.

“The procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted in line with the CAF Host Agreement, which defines the structures and processes governing tournament operations,” said Hussein.
He clarified that CAF and not FKF secured and maintained the required insurance cover for the players throughout the three-week tournament period.
“FKF did not transfer or pay any money to any insurance company for CHAN competitions,” Mohamed stated, insisting that all services were delivered in line with CAF requirements.
In his speech, the embattled FKF boss claimed that the allegations form part of a broader smear campaign aimed at undermining his leadership and reform agenda.

“A desperate act of revenge for the steadfast positions I have taken in the past. This also explains the choice of using me as the poster child in the so-called CHAN scandals,” Hussein claimed.

He assured his willingness to cooperate with investigative agencies but criticised what he described as ‘unfounded and malicious reports’ circulating in the public domain.
Hussein further noted that he would not be distracted from the reforms he has already initiated.
He also noted that his attempts to fight corruption at FKF have invited strong resistance, adding that he remains committed to the course.

Meanwhile, the NEC resolution, reached on Friday, installed Deputy President Macdonald Mariga as Acting FKF President pending the outcome of investigations.
Additionally, the committee ordered the freezing of all FKF bank accounts linked to Mohamed in his official capacity, citing the need to preserve evidence and prevent interference.
