Nairobi Estates Hit By Floods After Overnight Rains
Key road sections in Nairobi and a number of estates were left flooded and impassable after heavy overnight rains, leaving roads submerged on Monday night and into Tuesday morning.
Images and videos shared online show areas like Utawala, the Ruai bypass, and the Kariokor roundabout as among the most affected by the floods.
The floods disrupted normal road operations, leaving passengers stranded as floodwaters rose and made roads impassable.

In Utawala, residents woke up to find a swollen stream that had burst its banks, invading homes around the estate.
The floods also swept gates, cutting through access roads. Videos show fast-moving waters on Tuesday morning flowing across roads and into residential compounds.
Along the Ruai Bypass near the Kangundo Road intersection, floodwaters submerged sections of the road, causing a major traffic snarl as vehicles stalled and passengers remained stranded.
The same situation was seen at Kariokor Roundabout near Riverside, where roads were flooded with residents reporting raw sewage after drainage systems were overwhelmed.
Pedestrians navigating the stretch around Kariokor Market, the junction linking General Waruinge Street and Ring Road Ngara, were forced to jump over contaminated water as vehicles splashed sewage onto passersby.

Elsewhere, along Seasons Road heading towards Clay City, sections of the road were rendered impassable after being submerged by floodwaters.
The disruptions early Tuesday morning were caused by heavy rains that pounded the city on Monday night, even as the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority warned of more rainfall in the city and other areas this week.
According to the weatherman, heavy rainfall will continue in Nairobi, Kiambu, Murangβa, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Kakamega, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Turkana, and Marsabit.
The recent developments come weeks after the capital was thrown into chaos after rains destroyed properties worth millions and also led to fatalities.
