Kenya Met Issues Weekly Weather Forecast, Warns Nairobi & Neighbouring Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has issued a detailed weather forecast for the week from May 5 to May 11, covering counties across the country’s major regions.

In focus, KMSA has pointed out that Nairobi and neighbouring counties, including Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, and Tharaka-Nithi, should brace for a week of wet weather.

Additionally, they will experience cloudy mornings giving way to afternoon and nighttime showers and thunderstorms.

“Rainfall is expected to continue in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and some parts of the Coast, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya,” states KMSA.

The weather body has also noted that Counties in western Kenya, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Siaya, Busia, and Nandi, are set to experience sunny intervals in the mornings before afternoon rains and thunderstorms spread to several places.

The Lake Victoria region is equally affected.

Residents in Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira counties should expect afternoon and nighttime showers, with rainfall occasionally spreading beyond isolated areas and reaching several places during the forecast period.

Rift Valley counties, among them Nakuru, Baringo, Kericho, Bomet, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, and Narok, also fall within the same weather pattern, with afternoon and nighttime showers and thunderstorms expected to hit several areas throughout the week.

Laikipia and Nyandarua counties follow a similar pattern, where partly cloudy mornings will occasionally bring light rains before the sun breaks through, only for afternoon and evening thunderstorms to return over several places later in the day.

Up north, Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to remain largely dry and sunny during the day, though Kenya Met notes that morning rains and isolated afternoon showers may still occur in a few spots, with nights turning partly cloudy.

Counties in northeastern Kenya, specifically Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will also see mostly sunny weather through the week.

Despite the relatively dry outlook, morning rains and afternoon showers may still occur over a handful of places in those areas, as per the weatherman.
