School in Kakamega Closed Indefinitely Following Student Rampage
Ingotse Boys High School in Kakamega County has been closed indefinitely after students went on a rampage on Wednesday night, May 20.
According to preliminary reports, students vandalized property on school grounds before staging a walkout in the middle of the night.
Photos and videos posted online revealed the magnitude of the damage, with numerous critical components of school infrastructure, including the library, destroyed.
Effectively, the school management announced the facility’s closure on Thursday, May 21, and all pupils were instructed to depart immediately.
It is unknown why the students specifically targeted the library, which was completely destroyed, especially given the flammable nature of its contents.
Images from the scene showed the building completely gutted, with the roof, windows, and doors destroyed in the blaze.
By Thursday morning, smoke was still visible within parts of the premises, indicating the fire may have taken hours to fully contain.
Ingotse Boys is one of the more popular high schools in Navakholo Sub-County, serving the local community in Lurambi Constituency.
Being sponsored by a religious organization, the school is not typically associated with unrest among students.

The latest incident of unrest among students adds to a worrying trend which has seen some big secondary schools go on strike, particularly during the second term.
As recently as May 13, more than 1,100 students of Kaumoni Boys’ High School, Makueni County, were sent home indefinitely after they went on a rampage and damaged property of unknown value at the institution.
Makueni Sub-County Director of Education Richard Ng’ang’a confirmed the incident, saying the students burned down the offices of the principal, deputy principal, secretary, and bursar.
They also shattered windowpanes in all tuition blocks and damaged laboratory pipes and chemicals.
Separately, on May 12, parents of students schooling in State House Girls in Nairobi were asked to pick their children as the school addressed a wave of complaints from the learners.
