REVEALED: How Ruto’s UDA Plan To Infiltrate Gachagua’s DCP Party

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei claims that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is secretly attempting to infiltrate the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Cherargei’s words are likely to exacerbate political tensions in the Mount Kenya region.

Cherargei told the reporters at the parliament buildings on Tuesday, May 26, that the UDA was planning to endorse DCP candidates for crucial elective seats, including the highly anticipated Kirinyaga governor race.

The legislator accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of commercialising DCP nominations and turned the party into what he described as the biggest auction in the parliament.

The senator further alleged that Gachagua had failed in his widely publicised bid to raise Ksh2 billion during his recent trip to the United Kingdom.

He claimed the latter returned with only a fraction of the targeted amount from Kenyans in the diaspora.

“He told us he was going to raise Ksh2 billion in London, but I am told he raised only Ksh2 million, or was it Ksh1.5 million, because Kenyans within and outside the country knew that this is a political con man,” Cherargei alleged.

Cherargei also claimed that UDA intended to maintain influence in Mt Kenya even through candidates running on rival party tickets.

He suggested that some politicians within DCP were secretly loyal to the ruling party.

“As the government, Mt Kenya is a stronghold of UDA. We will not allow anybody or any individual to masquerade,” the senator said.

“We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night.”

Referring specifically to Kirinyaga County politics, Cherargei insisted that the government was determined to ensure leaders aligned with President Ruto remained influential in the county after the expiry of Governor Anne Waiguru’s term.

The Kirinyaga governor race is already shaping up to be one of the fiercest political contests in the Mt Kenya region ahead of 2027, with Waiguru constitutionally barred from seeking re-election.

Among those who have expressed interest in the seat is former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, who has since ditched UDA and aligned herself with the opposition.

Ngirici, who narrowly lost to Waiguru in the 2022 gubernatorial election by fewer than 8,000 votes, recently declared that she was ready to contest on any opposition-aligned party ticket.

“I will join any opposition party, DCP, PLP, Jubilee or DP, so long as it is in the opposition,” Ngirici said in an earlier statement.

Meanwhile, Gachagua’s allies have dismissed claims that his UK visit was a fundraising failure, maintaining that the former DP cut short the trip deliberately to return home and address pressing national concerns.

In a previous instance, Gachagua had also cancelled another planned London tour to oversee DCP nominations for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The political battle for Mt Kenya has intensified in recent months, with several leaders elected on UDA tickets increasingly distancing themselves from the ruling party.

Among them is Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, who has emerged as one of DCP’s most vocal elected allies in the region.

DCP and UDA had not officially responded to Cherargei’s specific infiltration claims by the time of publication.
