Ruto’s UDA Fiercely Responds To Uhuru, Terms Him ‘Bitter And Obsessed’
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has criticised Kenya’s fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta, over what it termed bitterness and an obsession with President William Ruto.
In a 12-page open letter to the former head of state, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar accused Kenyatta of harbouring deep resentment toward his successor, President William Ruto.
According to the party, Uhuru had failed to come to terms with Ruto’s victory in the 2022 General Election and was actively working against the current administration to ensure it failed.
“It is a fact that William Ruto won the 2022 election against your wishes and political schemes,” the letter read in part.
“For once, be a democrat. William Ruto is now the president of the Republic of Kenya. That is a reality you must live with and accept.”
The ruling party also accused Kenyatta of leaving behind a struggling economy burdened by debt, high inflation, and weakened institutions, something the current president has struggled to fix since taking office in 2022.
“You were President for 10 years, and like every administration, yours had successes alongside monumental and gigantic failures that make your tenure incomparable not only to the preceding administrations, but also to the first three years of the current administration,” the letter added.
“In many respects, you handed over one of the most broken governments in Kenya’s modern history.”
The letter further highlights some of the successes Ruto has achieved in the three years since taking over from Kenyatta.
They cited the education, agricultural, and health sectors that, according to the party, were dysfunctional during Kenyatta’s regime.
“You handed over a collapsing economy, a suffocating public debt burden, broken institutions, demoralised sectors, and a country on the brink,” the letter continued.
Mbarire and Omar also accused the former president of sponsoring the young people to show dissent against the current administration.
Stating that, “Since leaving office, you have dedicated yourself to undermining the very government you handed over.

“You operate from behind the scenes, mobilising political hostility, fueling public anger, and quietly hoping the country fails.”
The attacks come days after the Jubilee Party leader condemned Ruto and his administration for failing to listen to Kenyans, especially during the recent “reject fuel prices” demonstrations.
Uhuru accused the current administration of resorting to ethnic politics of division rather than finding solutions to the country’s problems.
“It is not that we do not know where the problem is,” Uhuru stated during a Jubilee Party delegates meeting on Monday, May 25.
“We all know taxes are high and the cost of living has become unbearable, and that is why Kenyans are complaining.”
