Tourists’ Carrying Plane Crash-Lands Near Maasai Mara Airstrip

There was panic in the Maasai Mara after a jet carrying tourists crashed at the Ol Kiombo Airstrip on Monday, June 1.

Footage of a small white plane that appears to be a Cessna 208 Caravan landing awkwardly on its nose, tail pointing up.

Several individuals, including several in uniform, are seen sprinting across the field toward the downed plane.

In the foreground, a little white plane with the tail number 5Y-CMS sits immobile on the ground.

As the scene unfolds, other automobiles can be seen moving across the terrain, with some rushing toward the incident and others driving around it.

A Kenya Wildlife Service Official confirmed the incident in a phone interview.

He stated that a plane carrying an unknown number of tourists was involved in the occurrence at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

“Indeed, there was a plane crash incident reported at the game reserve. That is all we can gather at the moment,” stated Wanyama.

Additionally, KWS also confirmed that there were no casualties reported from the incident.

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the accident, as investigations into the incident are still in their early stages.

The total number of people on board at the time of the crash has not been established, with officials yet to release a verified passenger and crew manifest.

This is not an isolated incident. This year alone, the country has witnessed a number of plane crashes.

Last month, a skydiving plane operating in Diani was forced into an emergency landing.

Fortunately, every single person on board escaped without injury owing to the precautionary measures taken by the pilot.

As recently as on Friday, May 22, Wilson Airport was temporarily closed after a Dornier 228-202 plane crashed while landing at the airport.
