DCP’s Malala Addresses Gachagua Fallout Claims, Assures Opposition Unity

Cleophas Malala, Deputy Party Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP), has flatly denied viral reports of a feud with party leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Malala addressed Kakamega locals on Saturday afternoon, insisting that they remain united despite mounting uncertainty caused by his absence from previous opposition gatherings.

Speaking during a burial ceremony, Malala stated that claims of a schism between him and Gachagua were part of a larger propaganda campaign aimed at weakening the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Since the Ruto administration knows it will go home, today it has sponsored propaganda that Rigathi Gachagua and I have differed,” Malala clarified.

“I want to tell those people spreading such propaganda that Gachagua and I are very much united.”

“Those are lies that are being spread to divide the united opposition. I want to say here that I have no problem with my party leader. I am the deputy party leader for DCP,” he added.

His comments come amid widespread speculation that he had a falling out with Gachagua after he was noticeably absent from several high-profile opposition engagements.

Addressing the speculation directly, Malala reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and its leadership, maintaining that there were no disagreements between him and Gachagua.

The former senator also used the platform to criticise President William Ruto’s administration.

He accused Ruto of neglecting development projects in Kakamega and failing to address challenges facing residents.

“Kakamega, we cannot continue this way for ten years. There are no medicines in hospitals,” he claimed.

“If you look at the budget, they have not allocated any money for roads in Kakamega.”

He claimed that residents had concerns over the proposed locations despite supporting preparedness measures against the disease.

“I want to tell you that we do not accept those two Ebola quarantine facilities here,” he said.

“Savula, it is okay to prepare, but it is the choice of the quarantine that I am questioning.”

While addressing the gathering, the former lawmaker called on the residents to unite and oppose the planned establishment of Ebola quarantine facilities in Kakamega.
