GOONS STATE: Kisumu Chaos Leaves One Dead, Disrupts Church Service
A battle between two groups of thugs in Kisumu city on Sunday resulted in one death.
The warring factions clashed at Kisumu’s ACK Cathedral, where one group planned to disrupt the religious service while the other attempted to prevent them from entering.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed in a statement on Sunday evening that one person died and numerous others were injured as a result of the violent confrontation.
James Orengo: If you want to go to Haiti, Haiti is here. I am used to this kind of war. Those in the state, including Raymond Omollo and Boy Akoth, have a hand in what happened to us in Kisumu today. We have evidence pic.twitter.com/9FrcmddWj3— K24TV (@K24Tv) July 12, 2026
The NPS also reported the torching of nine motorcycles and the damage to a police car.
“Following swift police intervention, eight suspects were arrested and placed in custody pending arraignment in court,” said NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.

“Efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved are ongoing.”
Linda Mwananchi leaders James Orengo and Edwin Sifuna were attending a religious service at the cathedral when the violent confrontation broke out.

The police have also dismissed reports of a shooting incident in Nyahururu, where another group of the Linda Mwananchi brigade, led by Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, was holding a rally.
Kang’ata had earlier reported that his bodyguard was shot when their meeting was disrupted.
The police service has since warned of political violence, saying “no person—regardless of social status, political affiliation or public office—is above the law.”
“Anyone found engaging in violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters or disrupting lawful gatherings will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law,” added the NPS.
