Notorious Criminal Linked To Viral Westlands Robbery Killed In A Police Shootout

Detectives have killed a key suspect linked to the viral armed robbery at a restaurant in Spring Valley, Nairobi, following a shootout in Joska, Machakos County.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers recovered a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition, additional live rounds, spent cartridges, and three mobile phones from the scene.

According to the DCI, the suspect is believed to have been part of a wider criminal network responsible for a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties.

Preliminary investigations also linked him to the armed robbery at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands.

The now-viral incident sparked widespread public attention after CCTV footage of the action went viral on social media.

The footage showed armed robbers storming the restaurant, terrorising diners and making away with phones and other valuables before fleeing on motorcycles.

Preliminary investigations strongly link the suspect to the recent daylight robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, where armed thugs terrorised diners, snatching phones and valuables before fleeing on motorcycles,” confirmed DCI.

Acting on credible intelligence, the investigators teamed up with officers from DCI Matungulu to launch a raid on a house in Joska Town.

The suspect had reportedlyΒ been hiding out at his girlfriend’s house in the area, believing it would keep him out of reach of the law.

When officers identified themselves and ordered the occupants to open the door, the suspect responded by firing through a kitchen window, spraying bullets at the team.

Once the premises were secured and officers gained entry, they found the suspect lying fatally wounded inside the house, having succumbed to his injuries.

Besides the Beretta pistol, detectives also recovered three mobile phones from the house, which are expected to help piece together the suspect’s movements and contacts.

DCI has since confirmed that the recovered firearm has been handed over to the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory, where ballistic experts will examine it for links to other violent crimes.

Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for the suspect’s accomplices,Β who are still believed to be at large and considered dangerous by investigators.
