Police Threatens To Withdraw Security From Rogue Politicians
Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has warned that politicians who hire thugs to cause violence risk losing state-provided security.
Nuno declared that the National Police Service will not protect authorities that promote lawlessness.
Nuno urged politicians to conduct their campaigns responsibly and cease utilizing paid organizations to disrupt public order.
He warned that anyone caught deploying goons to advance political goals would face severe consequences.
He stated that police are still willing to collaborate with political leaders, but that security cannot be compromised through propaganda or conduct that risks public safety.

“If any politician is found hiring goons, we will withdraw your security,” Nuno said.
“If they see fit to stay with goons, then they should return our security officers because we need them for other duties.”
He urged leaders to focus on development and issue-based politics rather than violence, saying Kenya’s peace and stability should not be sacrificed for the interests of a few individuals.
The warning comes amid growing concern over the use of suspected political goons to disrupt public events, elections and demonstrations across the country.
In recent months, suspected goons have been accused of disrupting activities at All Saints Cathedral and interfering with the Ol Kalou by-election.
Similar groups were also accused of infiltrating Gen Z-led protests, where they allegedly attacked demonstrators, vandalised property and looted businesses in Nairobi’s central business district.
The remarks also come as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced a nationwide crackdown on political goons and criminal gangs ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Murkomen said security agencies had been directed to dismantle criminal networks operating in Western Kenya and other parts of the country.

The CS warned that the government would no longer tolerate politicians who recruit or incite young people to engage in violence.
Nuno’s warning also echoes President William Ruto’s latest directive to security agencies to decisively deal with criminal gangs and lawlessness across the country.
Additionally, speaking at State House on Tuesday, Ruto said the country had reached a consensus that criminality could no longer be tolerated.
The President added that security agencies should act decisively while remaining within the law.
“We really have to have a conversation about criminality, the rule of law and the security of our country. There cannot be any defence for criminality and the rule of law,” Ruto said.
He added that with the consensus now in place, security agencies should carry out their mandate within the law and bring an end to criminality across the country.
