Grade 9 Student Hacks Classmate To Death, Police Confirm Arrest
A Grade 9 student has been detained in Migori County for reportedly beating and killing a classmate after a reported quarrel about school materials.
The 17-year-old suspect from Akonjo Junior Secondary School is accused of fatally attacking another pupil on July 22.
According to Kamgundho Location Chief Samuel Onjiko, the suspect was apprehended and turned over to officials at Uriri Police Station, where he is being kept pending his arraignment on a murder charge.
According to preliminary investigations, the student allegedly attacked his 17-year-old classmate with a panga while the victim was walking home from school that evening.

The chief said the two students had reportedly disagreed earlier in the day after the suspect accused the deceased of interfering with his locker.
Onjiko added that investigators were looking into claims that the suspect did not return for afternoon lessons after lunch before the alleged attack occurred later in the day.

The injured student was taken to Migori Level Four Hospital for treatment but died while receiving medical attention.
The student’s body was moved to the hospital mortuary as police prepared for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities said investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragic incident has caused concern in the community over the escalation of student disputes and the need for stronger measures to address conflicts among learners, which commonly occur in schools.
About two weeks ago, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student at Thika High School died following a physical confrontation with a fellow student over a disagreement reportedly linked to evening prayers.
Further, the incident comes amid growing worries over unrest in the education sector this year, with teachers, parents and other stakeholders raising concerns over learner behaviour.
