TWO School Buses Carrying 101 Learners Involved In grisly Accident, Leaves Over 13 Injured
Thirteen people have been injured after two school buses carrying 101 pupils were involved in a road traffic incident in Riting area, West Pokot county.
The Kenya Red Cross Society said 13 injured persons, comprising six males and seven females, had been evacuated to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for treatment.
The emergency agency said its response teams from West Pokot and Turkana counties were at the scene alongside county ambulances, an additional ambulance from Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), the National Police Service and other responders.
“Psychosocial support is being provided to those affected, while teachers and students are being moved to a safe holding area,” the Kenya Red Cross said.
The organisation said it was coordinating emergency assistance, including evacuation of the injured, first aid support, and welfare services for those affected by the incident.

The Kenya Red Cross Society is a humanitarian organisation mandated to respond to emergencies, provide disaster relief, support communities affected by crises and assist vulnerable people during disasters, accidents and other emergencies.
Its emergency response teams provide services including first aid, search and rescue support, evacuation, ambulance services, psychosocial support and coordination with government agencies and other responders during incidents.
The organisation said its teams remained on the ground assessing the situation and supporting affected pupils and school staff.
Road traffic incidents involving school transport have continued to require coordinated emergency responses involving medical teams, security agencies and humanitarian organisations to provide immediate assistance to victims.
